The Tests of General Educational Development (GED®) provide
adults who did not complete high school with an opportunity to earn
a high school equivalency certificate. By taking and passing a
series of five tests in Language Arts, Writing, Social Studies,
Science, Language Arts, Reading, and Mathematics, adults demonstrate
they have acquired a level of learning comparable to that of high
school graduates.

GED® stands for the General Educational Development Test. The
GED® Test provides a basis for conferring a high school equivalency
diploma on adults who have not graduated from high school. January
1, 2002 launched the current series of GED® Tests. The state and
national standards established for each subject ensure that the GED®
Tests continue to certify 12th grade ability in Language Arts,
Writing; Social Studies; Science; Language Arts, Reading; and
Mathematics. The American Council of Education also has information
relating to the GED® Test at http://www.acenet.edu/AM/Template.cfm?Section=GEDTS
